Lovely from a distance.

Lest you be surprised as I was, note that the top and handle of this carafe are plastic, and not a very substantial plastic either. Now, a plastic carafe made in China, with admittedly fine Chinese basketry can be a good thing, it's not a good thing at this price. Also, I wasn't able to make the lid work - but that may be my problem - not sure...I sent it back by convenient, speedy return - thank you Amazon.

Great product!

Yes, it has plastic-like lid and handle (which could be improved in terms of comfort), but it is in no way a problem at all for functionality. I boil a kettle of hot water every morning at 7am and fill it immediately into the carafe. It stays hot through the day and night. We have hot tea after dinner at 8pm and the water is still very hot. The next morning, I would pour out the remaining water into a flask for regular drinking and refill with newly boiled water. The water in the flask will still be warm! It's really great! I highly recommend it!
