Too much coffee?
By Noelle
I purchased this coffee maker around Christmas and was a little concerned over the prior reviews that stated it uses too much coffee. The chemist in me had to do the experiment.A standard issue coffee from Starbucks was ground to a standard medium grind for coffee makers of this type. The coffee was measured on a 1 gram precision scale according to the specification on the Starbucks coffee bag (2Tbs per 6oz cup) to make 6 cups of coffee. The coffee grinds weighed to be 54 grams. The same coffee beans from the same bag were ground in the coffee maker set to 6 cups and strong. The coffee grinds were then measured on the same scale and wouldn't you know...it was exactly 54 grams. For my coffee beans this machine on the 6 cup setting produced the following:Strong = 9 grams (2Tbs) of coffee per cup of waterMedium = 8 grams (about - 1 3/4Tbs) of coffee per cup of waterMild = 7 grams (about - 1 1/2Tbs) of coffee per cup of waterI can't imagine that one couldn't find a setting to their liking when you consider you have increments of 2 cups with 3 settings (strong, medium and mild) each.

World's Best Coffeemaker!
By L. Glass
After considerable research for the absolute best coffee maker in the world, I decided to purchase the Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB-700BC. It has a burr grinder. This one has the 12-cup glass carafe and it has a warming plate. Reviews on the stainless steel carafe have stated there is no warming plate. It seems the glass one does and the thermal one does not. It works perfectly and is very easy to program and use. It comes with a DVD which simplifies the process even more.It can also brew ground coffee. Just turn off the grinder before pressing the on/off button and it's ready to go.As for noise, I don't consider it too noisy. After all, it IS a coffee grinder and I expect to hear it when it grinds the coffee. The hopper holds a half-pound of beans which is enough to make coffee several times (if you're using the mild setting). The retail price is $199, but many places have it routinely for $169. I purchased mine at Kohls for $159 and they had a "scratch off" sale going on and I got an additional 15% off at the checkout.I highly recommend this coffeemaker.

Great coffee, but follow directions, and a few tips in my review
By jsmit86
I have owned a couple of grind and brews in the past with mixed results. Our first was a Mr Coffee back in the 1990's. It made great coffee, but was messy, and broke frequently. We also had the first Jura Capresso model about 6 years ago. I liked it, but my wife felt that no matter what the settings were, the coffee was bitter. Recenly we had been using a Krups stand alone machine, that makes good coffee, and a stand alone Krups burr grinder. Since our Krups burr grinder was getting finicky, and the coffee post was getting old, we decided to give the DGB700 Grind and Brew a try.My initial take, is that it makes an excellent cup of coffee, better than my last Krups machine. I am still experimenting with the settings, but so far I am very pleased. You do need to follow the directions. The key points I have found, is to make sure that the basket parts are dry. This means a quick rinse and dry between pots if you are making more than one.I also have cleaned out the chute where the ground coffee goes into the basket. It's very easy, and although mine was not clogged after about 6 pots, I did see where the grounds were building up in there a bit. My stand alone burr grinder had the same issue, but the new Cuisinart pot is actually very easy to clean in this area. Just remove the bean hopper, open the chute, push the lever over, and push they grounds into the basket area. (put a filter in first). Actually now, I just clean the chute each time. It takes less than a minute, and I think that this is the one main issues that some people are having. Also, I have lined up the arrows on the top of the basket. Easy to do, and it avoids some of the negative comments on other reviews. Finally, if you use paper filters, make sure that the top of the plastic basket is going INSIDE the top of the filter. My wife likes her coffee mild and smooth, but flavorful. My settings to make 12 cups, are 6 Cups on the grind selector knob with Mild or MED on the brew strength selector. The brew has good smooth flavor, and is not bitter. I also drink a lot of iced coffee. I will simply up the strength when I make coffee for that.Again, so far, so good. I think that following the guide and keeping the machine clean and dry should produce good results. One last thought... other Grind and Brew brands (Jura Capresso) make a major point about NOT storing beans in the freezer. Actually, I have done this for years, but after doing a bit of Google research, I find that it's better to just keep the beans in an airtight container, and only open what you will use in a couple of weeks. We are doing that now. I do notice that this sees to make the beans less oily, so that may also be a key to why some people get clogs.I will post a follow-up after I have had the machine for a few months.OK.. update as of 3/12 the unit is still working well. I do clean the chute after most every pot, but this is easy, and only takes a minute. Again... I strongly suggest NOT storing your beans in the freezer. The research shows that freezing the beans can force oil to the surface of the bean, which can contribute to clogs. I will say that this pot makes excellent tasting coffee.

LaCafetiere Fit and Finish
By NHSchreiner
I purchased this french press to be the smaller version of my Bodum 8 cup french press. My reason for choosing this particular unit was price and the fact that it had no plastic components. Plastic and very hot water just do not make me comfortable these days. My Bodum has a small plastic liner/strainer in the lid. I have written to Bodum to find out what type of plastic was used, to date no reply. Anyway the La Cafetiere french press does everything a french press is suppose to. The only issue I have is that the fit and finish of the components are not even close to the Bodum unit. I guess you get what you pay for after all. We will see if it lasts as long as my plastic lined Bodum?

THE PERFECT COFFEE MAKER
By Inebriated_Snake
The french press has been used for a long time to make coffee and for good reason. The difference between this and an electric machine is nearly the same as a home cooked meal compared to an microwaveable. The time and energy you put in makes the difference. With that said, this is perfect for making a cup of joe for about 1 or 2 people depending on the size you get.1. Its small and takes up little space and can be bought at the "right size".2. Its a very "green" solution. No filters or K-cups to trash. And you can brew with your own sources such as gas or propane instead of electricity or even cold brew if you choose.3. "All natural" No chemicals are leached because it doesn't use paper filters or plastics. Just glass and steel. Basically its up to the quality of the coffee itself.4. Its easy to add your own flavors, like cinnamin, coconut and nutmeg.5. No paper filters means more essential oils and flavors are kept in. Brewing becomes an art.6. Its economical. The only thing you need to buy over and over again is coffee. No K-cups or filters to be a slave to.7. Even more economical still in that if any part fails it can be easily replaced. If an electric maker breaks you'll most likely need a new one.8. Easy to clean and comes apart simply. Most ppl just clean the pot and filter of electric makers and forget things like water reservior and other internals often need checking. The only negatives is that you can't keep it warm all day (which makes it spoil anyways), and the time involved. Its well worth to take the time even on a busy morning. Just get up 15 minutes earlier.Again the perfect coffee maker in price, environment, and taste.

The perfect cutest cafetiere for two
By Luca
I bought this for my grandparents, because they love french press coffee and since it's just the two of them most of the time, I thought I'd buy a smaller coffee press and it turned out to be the cutest and most easiest coffee press to handle. They just love it and I think I'm going to get one too (I have a 6 cup one). I believe it is perfect for a couple, but you can make 4 cups of coffee with it, if you need to (a middle size cup). Enjoy it!

I love my Bodum french press!
By David Donaldson
I've used the Bodum french press for years now, when I accidently broke the glass I was afraid I'd have to replace the entire product. I'm so glad I could find just the glass piece by itself for the french press!

Bodum Replacement Carafe
By K. Hollar
Thank goodness Amazon started carrying this product again! I did not want the "unbreakable" plastic carafe that Bodum has offered as a replacement for the original glass. When my former roommate broke the original carafe, I thought it would not be a challenge to locate its replacement. However, around that time, the Chambord 4 Cup French Press was no longer on Bodum's website with a glass carafe replacement. The reviews for the plastic are mostly the same complaints about scratching and eventually breaking the "unbreakable" due to stress fractures. In addition, coffee oils are much better when they are fresh and plastic hangs onto the oils and most people do not like to use soap on their coffee equipment. Borosilicate is the king!

LOVE this personal brewer!
By NWMom
I've been a long time user of personal brewers - two pod/cup type machines one well known, one lesser known. My problem with them both is that using your own coffee (I have my non pod favorite!) produces a mess and/or very weak coffee. They simply don't hold the right coffee/water ratio to produce what I would consider an excellent cup of coffee.I recently spied this machine and immediately liked that it was non proprietary, read the former reviews, looked at the price tag and was skeptical - how good could it be for under $60 when its rival starts at $100? I finally brought one home and I'm sold! Using the "bold" setting it made even a decaf coffee nice and strong and it reminded me of the results that I get with my French Press - full bodied, rich & flavorful.I like that the basket for the coffee is nice and deep and easy to fill. The water resevoir is easily filled. It holds an ample 14 oz. of water - you get out what you put in so playing with the measurement and grind of your favorite coffee takes some perfecting. The brewer starts immediately, the light goes out signaling it is finished brewing. It is a tad faster than the mini version of the more popular single cupper. The coffee comes out hot. I haven't seen any issues with leaking, spraying, etc. Hamilton Beach was also thinking when the made the drip tray so that it flips over and fills the space to a smaller cup size.I'd add some cons but really there isn't anything that I dislike about this machine.

Super quiet, great coffee, awesome value, ridiculously easy to clean
By j-yo
I just purchased this yesterday, so I can't vouch for its longevity, but we have made several quick cups of coffee and tea using this and it works great.Let me say that I am a caffeine addict. I prefer my coffee bold, am picky about my freshly roasted beans and prefer the taste of french press-made coffee. However, I am also not a morning person, and having to make a large cup of coffe in the morning while trying to get busy kids and a busy mom ready for school/work is quite a chore. Also, being the only coffee drinker in the house (my husband and oldest son like tea), my only option after drinking the first cup was to dump out the rest or refridgerate it and microwave it later - neither were options I was thrilled about.I didn't want to pay the price of one of the larger Keurigs; nor did I have the counter space for that. We have a large Keurig at my office and, while I certainly appreciate being able to brew a fresh cup of coffee whenever I want, it's a noisy machine, it has to be constantly plugged in to maintain its heating elements, and the coffee pods leave something to be desired.I checked out the smaller, less-expensive Keurigs in the stores, but they felt very flimsy and I had read reviews about them breaking down frequently. My HB One-Scoop feels sturdy, doesn't take up much counter space, was reasonably priced and, best of all, makes a great cup of coffee. It took a few tries for me to determine how fine to grind my beans and how much of it to use, but after that, it's been a breeze: You take your cup, fill it with water and pour that into the reservoir on top. Then, you take the scoop (which doubles as a filter), scoop out the amount of ground coffee you want, slap that scoop into a filter cup that is already sitting in the well, close the lid and press either the "regular" or "bold" button. The coffee drips quietly into your cup. Also, clean up literally takes seconds - All you need to do is rinse out the scoop filter and filter cup in hot water. You don't have to plug this unit in until you're ready to use it, and an adjustable shelf allow you to use a smaller mug or a larger travel-sized mug. This comes with two scoops, so you can make more than one cup of coffee if you have company and not have to stick a wet scoop into your ground coffee. We have also used it just for hot water for tea and it works equally well with a rinsed out filter scoop and filter cup.In addition, the scoop and water reservoir also has measurement lines for an 8 oz. and 14 oz. cup of coffee, although I do use extra coffee to get the strength I like.I love being able to use my favorite coffees and not get stuck buying expensive, weak-flavored pods. I'm so glad I got this.

CAN'T FIND A BETTER CUP OF COFFEE
By Sharon E. Herring
I am a coffee connoisseur. I have tried every machine from the Senseo to the Bunn Home Cafe (very expensive coffee brewer) to the French Press. I am tired of the "pod" machines because you just cannot get a good cup of coffee, even when you make your own pods. Therefore, I researched numerous coffee brewers and was contemplating getting a Keurig when I spotted this coffee brewer during a TV commercial. My first thought was that this is the ideal concept -- scooping your own coffee -- no pods or K-cups. I purchased this brewer and was determined not to like it because it wasn't an "expensive" brewer. While it does have several inconveniences, like having to refill the water reservoir each time you want a cup of coffee, bottom line is it makes the best cup of coffee for a single serve coffee maker that I've ever tasted! It is a simple machine, but ideal for those who just want a delicious cup of coffee each time you turn it on. Another plus, the water gets very hot, unlike other machines I've used where the water comes out luke warm.

Outstanding Espresso / Great Size & Design
By Michael Miller
After weeks of research we ended up selecting the Jura-Capresso ENA 4.I was a bit skeptical that this small little super automatic could really replace our larger manual and brew quality espresso. I went to a local retailer and was fortunate enough to be able to use a demo unit. I was amazed by how simple and intuitive the ENA 4 is to use; while at the same time provides a level of flexibility and control well beyond my expectations. The Jura-Capresso site has some great video demos as well as other info that is worth checking out.http://capresso.com/automatic-coffee-centers-ena3-4.shtmlIf you're looking for a super automatic, I highly recommend you take a look at the ENA. Our unit has exceeded our expectations. Great espresso and lattes!

Perfect for home use
By Richard Evans
I purchased the ENA4 2 years ago, actually I purchased the ENA3 which is black, but I was given the ENA4. The only difference is the color. It has never failed to produce an excellent shots of espresso. Generally, I make lattes or cappuccino.Performing the routine maintenance, when indicated, produces the best results. This is a home unit, not designed for power users. Wouldn't recommend it for an office or high volume household.

Great Coffee, Bad Water Container
By J. Plant
This is our third Capresso (or Jura Capresso) superautomatic coffee machine. In our experience these machines last only a few years before needing repair but they make such good coffee, so easily and quickly, that we keep coming back to them. We've tried other brands and none rivals Jura Capresso's coffee. This is our first machine of the Ena generation, however. We just bought an Ena 3. While the coffee is as good as that of previous models, the new design is disappointing. The rotary dial is a pain but it is tolerable once you master it. The water tank, on the other hand, is an absolute nightmare. We can only make three mugs of coffee before it must be refilled, and the rear location of the tank makes that task very difficult, especially since our machine must be located on a kitchen countertop beneath upper cabinets. In addition we have under-cabinet lighting, and it's hard to remove the water tank for refilling without bumping into the lights and burning your hand. In my opinion the few inches reduction in the width of the machine is insignificant compared to the inconvenience of the new water tank's size and location. Unless Jura redesigns the water tank, I doubt we'll be buying a fourth coffeemaker from them. Maybe we'll just have our old one repaired and use it for a few more years!
