Bodum Eileen 8 Cup French Press Coffeemaker, 1.0 l, 34-Ounce
Product Description
The Bodum Eileen French press coffee maker, was conceived not only in honor of the great designer Eileen Gray and all the coffee connoisseurs who frequent the bistros and cafes of Paris, Gray's adopted city. The beautifully detailed stainless steel frame offers extra protection for the glass carafe. The French press brews coffee in 4 minutes that is extremely flavorful. Simple and easy to use; just add coarse ground coffee to the press with hot water, let it sit for 4 minutes and press the plunger to stop the brewing process. The stainless steel filter system means no waste. Replacement parts are available.

Donate, give away, or throw away your electric coffee maker.
By A Customer
Using this french press yields an outstanding cup of coffee! Efficient to use, quick and easy clean up, very little extra time or effort from making your morning brew with a drip type maker. This unit is well made, durable and fashionable. Consider purchasing this if you grind your own beans and like strong coffee that is of consistant and high quality. Unless you have or are going to purchase a quality coffee mill, don't buy this or any other french press...you'll likely be disappointed at the results. I recommend the Starbucks Barista Burr Grinder (made by Solis) (...).
The price on this 8-cup model doesn't deviate by more that a couple of bucks amoung retailers, so I bought at Amazon and if I ever need parts, I can buy direct at Bodum's web site. As Bodum doesn't "outdate" their products every couple years like other mfg's, you should have piece of mind knowing that you'll not have to part with your french press if something tragic happens to it.
Enjoy excellent coffee.

Elegant and brilliant--but with a design flaw
By A Customer
Once you have coffee from a "french press" you'll never go back to a drip machine again. The flavor is so rich, so intense, so good that you'll think you're drinking hot chocolate. Of course, there are drawbacks too: unlike a drip machine, a french press doesn't keep the coffee warm for hours (you should only drink fresh coffee anyway) and it's harder to clean. Also, there's no point using a french press unless you use top grade (read, expensive) coffee beans and grind them yourself (...). As for this model specifically, it's gorgeous. If you love good clean modern mid-century design this is the only Bodum model for you. One warning: there is a serious design flaw to the Eileen model and it's the little round rubber piece that you press down to plunge the coffee. After about six months of daily use, it wears thin and a metal screw will break right through the rubber and into the palm of your hand. Ouch!...

The Art of Fine Coffee
By Penumbra
If you're ready to try a French press, Bodum's Eileen model is absolutely gorgeous! You can enjoy a fine piece of art and a perfect cup of coffee at the same time.First, let me say that a press makes fabulous coffee. The principle is simple. Put some freshly ground coffee in the glass beaker; add boiling water straight from the kettle, stir, wait a few minutes, then press the plunger to take all the grounds to the bottom of the carafe. You'll have a hot, rich, lovely brew. The typical drip coffee maker doesn't seem to get the water hot enough to bring out the full flavor of the beans; percolators keep boiling the coffee and can turn bitter; and home versions of espresso machines are very expensive. When you add the boiling water to good coffee in a press, watch the crema start to form and smell the glorious aroma. Perfection! My only reservation about this model is that the Eileen frame, while absolutely beautiful, doesn't seem to hold the carafe as snugly as the Chambord model. Although the carafe doesn't seem in danger of slipping out of the frame while you're pouring, there is definitely extra room there. I'd also be careful with the plastic knob on top of the plunger. The clean up isn't difficult - everything comes apart and goes into the dishwasher. If something does break, Amazon carries standard Bodum replacement parts. One more tip, if you want your coffee with milk served hot, just put a glass of milk in the microwave for a couple of minutes. That way can add all the milk you like without making the coffee cold. If you really want to go all the way, check out some of the milk frothers available on Amazon. It's an inexpensive gadget that turns skim and lowfat milk into a decadent, creamy foam.Ahhhhh....life is good!
