Mr.Coffee's Bundle Let's You Customize Your Favorite Cup
By Tante Maren
We have had Mr. Coffee Machines in our home for decades. We have also tried other brands over the years- the one cup Keurig being a recent favorite because of all the different delicious flavors you can try. Mr.Coffee always has one issue, and that is, it makes a weaker cup of coffee unless you use more beans or stronger beans. This JWX39 Model is a first, as it has both a regular and strong brew mode- and the strong mode, for the first time ever, actually makes a STRONG cup of coffee. It seems to take a minute or two longer on the strong mode- but a wonderful strong delicious cup of coffee is what you get for that extra minute or two. This model makes the strongest cup of coffee we have ever had from Mr. Coffee and this is a first for us! No more extra beans or stronger beans- saving us money. The 12 cup programmable coffeemaker itself is stainless and black, very light weight and a nice size for the counter. It has an on/off light, removeable filter basket, a pause and serve, a 2 hour auto shut off and even a cleaning cycle. The glass carafe is dishwasher safe and there is a ding sound when the coffee is ready and also when it shuts down after 2 hours. This bundle comes with the coffeemaker, a grinder, a permanent gold filter basket (never buy paper filters again- saving money) and two water filters. Do you need water filters? I can only tell you that when we don't use them, the coffee is bitter. The permanent gold basket coffee filter is a huge money saver and lasts for years. As for the grinder- this is the greatest item in the bundle. The grinder isn't the best one on the market, but if you grind and stop and shake it up a bit and then grind more- it all comes out even. Just grinding it, without shaking it up, comes out part thin and part rough. The shaking gets it even.We put the beans in the grinder and experimented with adding different spices and flavors- vanilla beans, cinnamon, drop of peppermint oil, coco, powdered chocolate and different spices. Wow- what fun it is to come up with wonderful flavors custom made to our tastes! The biggest thing we noticed is how inexpensive it is to have a custom made cup of coffee compared to the very expensive Keurig tiny cups. Mr. Coffee with a grinder is a huge money saver! This Bundled Mr. Coffee Set makes a delicious strong OR regular cup of coffee, it filters out any bitterness, you never have to buy paper filters and you can make a custom cup of coffee that everyone will enjoy with the grinder. And after you are finished enjoying your delicious cup of coffee, it has a special cleaning cycle and dishwasher safe carafe to save you time. Because this coffeemaker is the first Mr. Coffee one that makes a strong delicious cup of coffee without adding extra or stronger beans, I would rate it 5 stars based on that alone, but with the wonderful bundle that lets you create any delicious cup you can dream up, it really earns 5 stars!

A Krups and Braun owner switches
By John Williamson
Waited for over six months to review this Mr. Coffee JWX39 Coffeemaker, Grinder, Water Filter, and Permanent Filter Bundle that I purchased here in February 2012, as over the years I've had too many failures with drip coffeemakers of all types, and wanted to see if this one might hold up. So far it has, but this will be a dynamic review, with updates as necessary. These are the high and low points:Likes:+ Makes excellent coffee; brew strength can be set for either regular or strong coffee+ Mild alarm sounds when coffee is ready; no need to watch the pot+ Completely programmable; set the unit for when you want it to turn on+ 2-hour auto shut-off; keeps coffee warm for 2 hours, automatically shuts off+ Water window on right; shows the amount of water in the reservoir+ Carafe can be removed while coffee is brewing; good for that early cup+ Attractive black and stainless steel finish; easy to clean+ Excellent selection of accessories with this bundleDislikes:- Water drips from bottom of brew basket when carafe is removed- Clock may be difficult for some users to readIn Use:This Mr. Coffee JWX39 Coffeemaker is a pleasure to use. It came well packaged, and was quite easy to set up. The directions are easy to follow, and once the time was set and unit was programmed, followed the directions for cleaning the coffeemaker prior to its initial use. This coffee maker measures 9 ½ inches wide by 11 ½ inches deep by 20 inches high. The size is right, but be aware that you need to allow an extra 9 to 10 inches to open the left-hinged top to change the coffee filter and add water. From that first pot of coffee, the quality has been as good as any automatic drip coffeemaker that I've used, regardless of cost. This particular bundle comes equipped with the following accessories:> Mr. Coffee IDS59-4 Electric 2-2/7-Ounce Coffee Grinder> Mr. Coffee WF10 Water Filter> Mr. Coffee GTF2-1 Gold Tone Permanent FilterAll of these have proven to be very handy and good selections for a bundled package such as this. One concern that I had from prior experience was the glass carafe. If you ever break it (and it happens), the Mr. Coffee PLD12-2 12-Cup Replacement Decanter is the correct one to get, and I looked this up prior to purchasing this unit.Experience is a great teacher, and one thing that I've learned over the years is that minerals (usually calcium or limestone) found in water will leave deposits in any coffeemaker of this type, which will affect its performance. To decalcifying this or any similar coffeemaker, you don't need commercial solutions. Follow the regular cleaning decalcifying instructions that come with the coffeemaker but substitute 4 cups of undiluted, white household vinegar. With this unit, the cleaning cycle is automatic, and will take about 45 minutes to complete. But read the directions the first time.Getting this particular coffeemaker was almost like a trip to the past. The Mr. Coffee brand drip coffeemaker was first made available for home use in 1972, and I was one of those early adopters. That simple white unit with its wood grain face and removable drip basket became my favorite kitchen appliance while in college, and it lasted for years.A friend gave me my first Krups drip coffeemaker as a gift after I had broken the glass carafe on my original Mr. Coffee unit, and keeping this short, it became a cycle between Krups and Braun over the years, usually ending with the units burning out. Sometimes they were repairable, but over time that also seemed to change as manufacture went from Germany to Mexico and beyond.Summary:When my last Braun quit working over a year ago, I started looking again. I came very close to getting the Cuisinart DCC-2650 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, which had all of the right features, but when I searched further here on Amazon, I found this unit by Mr. Coffee on sale at the time, and bought it on impulse.Other than the minor dislikes that I've noted above, this Mr. Coffee JWX39 Coffeemaker Bundle has performed quite well. Again, it's been in service a bit over six months now, and has continued to reliably make one to two pots of good, strong coffee daily. For now I'll call this a solid 4-star product, and if it makes it past its first year, I'll be back to upgrade it to a 5-star recommendation... wish me luck.8/28/2012

Fine While It Lasted
By Spudman
Before buying this "bundle", make sure you actually want and will use all of the components. Otherwise you're better off just buying individual items that you really want separately. Since we have well water, the included water filters that remove chlorine are of little use to me. I probably wouldn't use them anyway because I see them as just something more to fool with when making a pot of coffee. The grinder works well, and freshly ground coffee does taste pretty good. However, I quickly lost interest in it and have only used it a few times. As far as the main piece of the package, the coffee pot, it's a nice looking appliance that makes a decent pot of coffee. I set up my coffee pot the night before and have never detected and plastic taste by doing that, as others have complained. The coffee brews in a reasonable amount of time, though I noticed the time is lengthened when setting the brew strentgth to strong. There's a mostly universal pause and pour feature on this model that works fairly well. Most of the time a few drips hit the hot plate when I use the feature. If you want to take advantage of the built in clock, place Mr. Coffee in a well lit spot or you won't be able to read those hard to see digital digits.Filling the pot could be more convenient with a larger opening. I find that it's easier to add water to a pot with a swing out filter design. The window that indicates the amount of water in the cavity is easy to read even in moderate light. If you place the Mr. Coffee under a cabinet like I did, you'll have to move it every time you fill or clean it. The large door atop the 13 inch tall appliance hits the bottom of our cabinets. When the coffee is down to the last few drops of brewing, Mr. Coffee alerts you with a repeating beep that eventually stops. For me the signal is annoying and unnecessary, but some may like this feature. After two weeks of use the glass carafe developed a crack. I discovered the crack after a pot of coffee leaked all over the counter top and dripped down into the dishwasher and onto the floor. What a great way to begin the day!I'm having a difficult time finding a replacement carafe. When I went to the Mr. Coffee site, this specific model isn't listed. Replacements on Amazon may work,: one mentions the JW series, and it's only dollars. My recommendation: If you decide on this Mr. Coffee model, you're better off buying the bundle components separately. Be aware of its 13" height and 9" by 7" lid when planning its placement. My coffee pot will be on hiatus until I can find a suitable replacement carafe.
