5Perfect SIMPLE and small coffee maker
By Michael Price
I have had a larger coffee maker for years, but the glass carafe broke and I could not find a replacement ANYWHERE. So, looking around and doing my research, I found this coffee maker. It has everything I want with NO extra useless functions. It has: Pause and Serve; On/Off switch; 4-5 cup capacity (This equals 2 large coffee mugs); Makes good coffee; inexpensive; NO other functions/no timer, clock, etc. Brewing speed is not slow, not quick, sort of "in between". I can live with that. Simple yet well-functioning. And it's TINY, comparatively speaking. I like! EXACTLY what I have been looking for. Thank you, Hamilton Beach! The only thing it doesn't have that would really be useful is an automatic shutoff.

3Perfect size for two large mugs of coffee, but one "issue"
By Tea for two
I have MANY coffee makers. I have a Capresso, Cuisinart 12-cup, and a Farberware Percolator. I've owned a Melitta and various other drip makers in the past. At the moment, what is most precious to me is the ability to make a good cup of coffee for two people without taking up much counter space. This coffee maker fits the bill. No bells or whistles, but very nice looking and performs well.My only criticism is that the shiny plastic on the top of the maker is somehow a bit mottled as though it had been kept in a very hot place and the plastic wrap injured the shine. This is not a performance issue, but I am very picky about how my appliances look. I don't feel particularly compelled to box the thing up and send it back for another one, but on the other hand I cannot say that I am 100% happy that it didn't arrive in pristine condition. I guess I will just have to give it a couple of weeks to see if I can "get over" my irritation with this minor flaw. Again, nothing with the manufacturing or design...but maybe a storage issue? Not sure. Was fully wrapped in plastic and no indication of it being a return.

2Back to the drawing board
By CBlaze
I've had my 4-cup Mr. Coffee for years - and it works like a champ - haven't had any problems with it. Recently, the unbleached flat bottom coffee filters that I use for it have gone out of stock at my local grocer - and they replaced them with the unbleached cone filters - and even though they work fine in my Mr. Coffee (though they sit awkwardly) - I wondered if I was getting full use of them and with my added desire for a bit more coffee - I decided to try this 5-cup Hamilton Beach machine that has a cone filter basket. After using this Hamilton Beach unit for a month - I'm back to my Mr. Coffee. The Hamilton Beach unit makes a great cup of coffee - but when you pour hot liquids out of the pot - it tends to cling to the front of the outside of the pot and leak all over. I've tried pouring slow - fast - with the lid partially open - with the lid pressed shut - no matter what I tried it leaked all over my counter. I've looked all over the net for solutions - and the best solution offered was to send the pot back for replacing - I'm not sure how that will "fix" the problem. I look at the two coffee pots from my Mr. Coffee and the Hamilton Beach side to side - and I see that the pot on the Hamilton Beach unit ends right at the top - where the Mr. Coffee has a lip that extends out - I'm no coffee pot designer/engineer - but I wonder if that has anything to do with it.My Mr. Coffee also has a window in which I can see the liquid level in the machine as I pour water into it - a wider area to pour in the water - a removable filter basket for easy cleaning - as well as an automatic shut off, clock and timer - and if I remember correctly I paid pretty much the same amount as this machine - it's well made and a better bang for my buck. I may get a little less coffee in the morning - but I also get less mess which when trying to get out the door in the morning is more appreciated.
