4Works well, with a caveat
By Robert W. Edwards
I've used my Mr. Coffee JWX9 5-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker daily for the last month. It brews good coffee at the right temperature for me, and the "five-cup" capacity is just right to fill my 20 oz travel mug as I head out for work. The basket is easy to load/unload (I use flat-bottom paper filters) and the stainless steel carafe is both durable and easy to clean. I've noticed no unpleasant tastes but I brew only with Brita-filtered cold water and custom-ground coffee from Starbucks. I also run white vinegar through every six weeks or so to keep everything clean. It's hard to find fault with a $25 kitchen appliance that does its job day-in and day-out. But I will anyway. First of all, coffee seems to burn faster in the stainless steel carafe than it did in the glass carafe from my previous 4-Cup Mr. Coffee. I don't recommend leaving coffee on the burner for longer than 15-20 minutes after brewing. Trouble is, as other reviwers pointed out, coffee gets cold in the carafe pretty quickly when it's removed from the heat. It's also a bit tricky to pour water into the reservoir depending upon how the unit is situated on your counter. I've missed a couple of times and had to cleanup with a towel. And while you can tell that brewing has stopped by listening (the brew cycle is kinda loud), a "finished" indicator light would be nice especially for consumers who are hearing impaired.I recommend this appliance and would buy another one.

1I should have read the other reviews before buying this
By OliveOyl
When I saw this I immediately purchased it because I thought it would be a perfect size and unbreakable. Our last glass pot in our last coffeemaker was shattered. My husband's main problems with this are that the reservoir has such a small opening that pouring water into it is awkward, and the coffee burns in the carafe if left in there after brewing. It seems like you have to immediately pour the coffee into your cup and turn it off or you get burned coffee in the pot. This was a problem because when it was programmed to make coffee in the morning, my husband felt like he had to run and get the coffee poured into his thermos or he would have nasty tasting coffee for the day. No leisurely cup of coffee in the morning! The stainless steel is a good idea but it just doesn't work the way you think it would. We returned it.

4Good little, and I do mean LITTLE, coffee maker
By Gerald G. Vath
First, a little background. My old Mr. Coffee maker died after many years of excellent service. It was the thermo-carafe type. I usually make coffee in the morning, drink a few cups and that's it. I went thermal because with granite counter tops...there's no forgiveness with glass. The slightest tap and...shatter!This maker seemed as close as I could get to my old one and I was looking for a slightly smaller unit. Be forewarned...this coffee maker is VERY small. There is no "standard" for how many ounces there are in a "cup" of coffee. You'll read it could be anywhere from 4.2 to 6 oz. (You can't equate coffee cup with measuring cup.) The bottom line is this carafe holds 24 oz of liquid, that's 4.8 oz per coffee "cup." If you use a mug, as I do, you'll get two fills out of a pot. I would say this is a good coffee maker for a once-a-day use by one individual or for a private office. It's won't do if you entertain a lot or have multiple coffee drinkers in your household. The quality of the coffee is fine and I've never let the heating element on long enough to see if it overheats the coffee. (This carafe is not insulated.) The digital display is also hard to see, but I never use it as clock or time my coffee to brew.
