3No plastic (yay!) but fragile as heck (boo!)
By mindyourown
I purchased this coffee press after much ado--I really wanted to avoid a coffee press with plastic parts that touch the coffee. In that regard, this item fills the bill. Now...for the really annoying part. Please do believe the reviews that proclaim the beaker to be fragile and delicate beyond belief. My first beaker lasted precisely 1-1/2 months. It was a Thanksgiving casualty, so to speak. I ordered two replacements, one which lasted me from the beginning of December until last week (that's nearly nine months, for those of you who don't want to count). The first break was my own fault admittedly. The plunger is heavy and when cleaning you have to keep it clear of the beaker. It swings down easily and will break the beaker like a hammer breaking an egg. The second break was for no clear reason at all. It just cracked during routine cleaning. Nothing harsh or unusual, just random. Oh the annoyance. I guess I will be ordering a few extra beakers to have on hand.Another (milder) annoyance is the fact that the plunger/strainer works in mysterious ways. Some mornings the strainer moves down the carafe with little effort; other times I feel that I have to use a pretty good amount of force (while being cognizant of the fragility of the darn carafe) to move the strainer down into the coffee. So I'm happy enough with the purchase in that it is one of the seemingly few coffee presses sans plastic but there are tradeoffs with the cost and hassle concerning the overly delicate carafe and the occasionally stubborn strainer.

4french presses
By J. Wilson
I decided upon a LaCafetiere over the Bodum based largely upon the $9 difference in price and comparable reviews. I am satisfied with my decision. The LC does everything I expected of it with only a little more fussing around than my old drip coffeemaker required. I've set aside my concern over the fragility of the container--only a little care in handling protects against accidental breakage. The only downsides are: the coffee does cool down in the maker and must be microwaved after 20 minutes or so have elapsed; the twelve-cup moniker is deceptive--these are not 12 coffee-cup cups--but I knew that before the purchase; and some small proportion of the grounds do get into the cup when pouring. The maker is well made, stylish and much less visible on my kitchen counter-top than my drip maker. When a 12-cup, truly insulated version is devised I'll purchase that. As for the taste of the brewed coffee, I do not notice a significant difference compared to the drip maker, but I drink so much coffee that perhaps my capacity to distinguish between qualities of brew has been impaired. I think my 4 stars sums up my level of satisfaction quite well.

23 Glass Beakers Later
By Jane A. Lee-velez
I purchased this Coffee Press, after using this type of Coffee Pot when I lived in the UK. Unfortunately, the quality of the beaker is lacking. In approximately 6 months, 3 glass beakers have broken. I have cared for these carefully, rinsing out with hot water before use, to warm the pot. The last beaker I bought, I heard a cracking noise as I poured a cup of coffee. When I removed beaker from frame/cage a piece broke away. Very dangerous, this could have happened with a full pot. Overall the quality is different from what I used the UK, so very disappointed.
