5Best press I ever owned - still..
By Lord Dimwit Flathead
If you like the press method of making coffee, I can't imagine a better one than this.If you are not familiar with the French press method, you should be aware that coffee from a press is not nearly as "squeeky clean" as typical American drip coffee. Grounds are separated by a fine wire mesh on a plunger and a certain amount of fine grinds will ALWAYS get through. To minimize this, your coffee needs to be ground specifically for a press - a much coarser grind than for drip. But the press is widely regarded as the best way to get all the subtle flavors out of a great coffee bean. This one is beautiful and built like a battleship - you'll never have to replace broken glass insert again. All parts are dishwasher safe. The Frieling is also insolated but don't get the idea you can let your coffee sit in it. It is not a "thermos". It really is only enough insolation to offset the undesireable thermal conduction properties of stainless steel and keep it superior to its glass/ceramic rivals. No matter to me. Most coffee experts will tell you to get your coffee separated from the grounds after a 4-5 minute brew or over-extraction and bitter taste can result. So my coffee goes into a pre-heated, insolated carafe as soon as it is brewed.Because the Frieling is steel, dense, and more massive than your typical glass press, you may need to adjust your brewing procedure slightly to keep it from adversely affecting your brew temperature - ideally 190-200F. I preheat mine with some hot tap water before brewing but I have heard that you can just put boiling water in one, insert the plunger briefly, then brew using the same water which will now have dropped "into the zone".Happy brewing.P.S. If you are going to "do the press" I have two suggestions:- The Baratza/Solis Maestro Plus burr grinder: It's expensive but it produces a vastly superior (consistent) grind to blade grinders.- CoffeeBeanCorral.com : Learn to roast your own beans and the world will be your cup of coffee.(one year later) I am back to say this is STILL the best. I use it every day and it gets sent through the dish washer every day. It has taken a couple drops and still works fine.(FOUR years later - WOW!) What a great press! I still use this every day and it still makes a great cup of coffee!

5I've tried them "all" and this is the best
By A Customer
Granted it may not be the cheapest but you are getting a quality product. The two best things/selling points I can make are the fact that it is stainless steel meaning you will never have to replace a glass carafe again. Also, the steel is well insulated meaning that if you take your time with your first cup of press coffee, you can be sure the second will stay hot for you. As a side bonus, and unlike single wall stainless French presses you may have seen, this one should hold up to some damage as a ding in the outer wall wouldn't generally show through and cause the plunger to fail to go down. The only detraction, and it's minor, is that the hole in the lid for the plunger handle is not sealed, meaning water/coffee could get into the lid and would not necessarily be easy to remove. I can understand why they didn't try to seal this hole as it would have probably been a somewhat expensive weld and this item is already not so cheap. Still, as someone who's been through literally six presses (Bodums, Alessi, Hario) I think this one beats them all. I tried to upload the little user's manual that came with this press as a PDF which might help you decide.

5Great press and wonderful customer service
By K. Anderson
I owned a similar product, the Bodum Columbia insulated press Bodum Columbia 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Thermal Coffee Press Pot for 3 years, and I decided to switch to the Frieling press a few weeks ago. The Bodum has a filter that has a plastic housing and is surrounded by a silicone flap, and the silicone had worn off over time, allowing grounds to get into my coffee. In addition, the plastic absorbed coffee smell over time, making fresh coffee smell old.The Frieling press has several advantages:1. All parts are stainless steel. There is no plastic to wear out, break, or absorb odors, and there's no glass to break. It looks and feels well-made.2. It keeps my coffee warm for maybe twice as long as the Bodum.3. The filter screen has a smooth edge. I originally bought the Bodum press because the screens on other presses had rough edges that would fray or poke me when I washed them. Bodum fixed the problem by surrounding the screen with plastic, but Frieling takes the common sense option of just hemming it. Smart.4. It fully disassembles for cleaning.5. Replacement parts are available through their website.6. It makes great coffee. When the press arrived, the connection between the rod and the metal plunger was funky. It wouldn't tighten down all the way, as though the threads didn't quite match. I didn't want to have a whole new press shipped - that seemed wasteful - so I emailed Frieling. They were courteous and apologetic, and they sent me replacement parts within an hour of my emailing them. The parts arrived in perfect condition, and they worked. There are plenty of companies out there that don't stand by their products and treat their customers like they don't matter, so that means a lot to me.I highly recommend that you buy this press.

5Great coffee and easy to use
By Gregory G. Caiazzo
Purchased this machine about three months ago and have been totally pleased with it. Owned a C 1000 and upgraded with the frothXpress PLUS as well.... Easy to program, easy to use and easy to clean. I have been through two cycles of cleaning with the tablets and the cleaning took about half the time the C 1000 took... It uses special Cearly Blue filters.. no discounts on these. They are a standard price and you replace them with every cleaning so there is a little expense with this. The frothXpress is great and I use it only when I am making a few cappucinos. It comes completely apart and cleans easily. All in all, I could not be happier. The only thing that coul be better are the initial directions on how to use the machine. Having owned the other one, this one was easier to maneuver. The directions for the frothXpress PLUS are almost non-existent but I found some directions online which helped. It is a hefty price for a machine but I value good coffee. You will not be disappointed.

5Fantastic machine!
By girlygil
This machine was on my wishlist for a long time, but I couldn't bring myself to drop close to a $1000 on a coffee machine. One day we realized we had alot of AMEX points and could convert them to use on Amazon... voila! 3 days later the machine was sitting on our kitchen counter. It did take a bit of time to setup and get the hang of how to use the frother but once you do - the coffee gods will smile down on you.I held back posting a review until now. Last week the filter needed to be replaced and I ordered the wrong one (it's not the white filter that shows up as a bundled item with the tablets btw) so we've not been able to use the machine for the past week. We went back to using our old Tassimo single cup maker which I used to think brewed a pretty good cup of coffee. After drinking espressos, lattes and regular coffee from the Jura for the past 3 months I'm afraid I've been completely spoiled for anything else. This machine has now become an integral part of our daily routine...need to make sure I don't run out of the filters again! If you're thinking about purchasing this machine all I can say is "do it, just do it".

3Jura is OK,but not great
By N.O.65
I have purchase the new Jura-Capresso Impressa C5 before it had been released. So I had to wait for several weeks for its delivery. Once it arrived it took a good couple of hours to read through the manual, (the machine operation is not intuitive). It had all kinds of warnings for grinding: no oily beans, no flavored beans, and so on. (You could grind such beans in separate grinder and use it in the grinded beans compartment. I have not tried this yet). So, I have followed the instructions closely, and for about 5 to 7 days it worked fine. However, one morning, after the first cup of coffee I made, I could not make a second one. (There was no coffee coming out of the spouts). I try different approaches to solve the issue myself, however eventually called the company. The representative had walked me through some steps, basically squandering more and more of my good beans, but was not able to solve the problem. To his credit, once he realized he can not resolve the issue he offered to replace the body of the machine. The way it worked; the company has sent the new body and a label to send the old one back. (I had to remove all the removable parts: water tank, spout for cappuccino, and such) It took about a week for a new one to arrive. On arrival, I have noticed that the spout on the new one did not feet as well as on the old one, but I did tried to froth the milk yet. (I hope it works)As far as quality of the coffee it makes, it is not bad; it is still not a commercial quality, but the machine makes a creama that is somewhat resembling of a good European café coffee. I have tried several different kinds of beans and came to the conclusion that quality of beans make a bigger difference than the machine itself. (I tried the good beans in the cheap espresso machine and the coffee was almost as good). The best beans I found were at the "Whole Foods" store.Overall, I think it is way overpriced, and I would not purchase it again.

4good coffee, once you get the proportions right
By J.D.
Though advertised as a four cup coffee maker, when used as directed, the coffee is awful - weak, burnt. What I found works is to use two measures of coffee (fill the coffee holder, without using the reducer) but only use half the water (halfway to the release valve). Use low heat and pour as soon is it makes noise. The coffee then is delicious - and about the amount of a double espresso.

5Great for My Needs
By Hemevubal
I bought a Zojirushi 1L carafe and was very happy with it. Then read in the instructions that there was an option to put a Manual Drip Filter Cone that could be used to make coffee directly into the carafe. I checked it out on Amazon but saw a lot of criticisms that gave me pause. But slowly I started checking them out one by one and found them either to be wrong or irrelevant. The most important criticisms that I saw was that the thing dripped too slowly and was structurally unbalanced. One reviewer made the claim that their Melitta One cup cone had 4 holes and thus drained coffee quickly. I also own a Melitta one cup drip cone and found that (despite claims to the contrary) there is only one hole in that device and that did not prevent the Melitta one cup from making coffee in less 30 secondsThere was also a claim that Melitta's 10 cup Cone/Carafe would be better as it would be faster than this Manual Drip Coffee Cone. But I checked out the Melitta at a local Ace Hardware and again it only has one hole. Plus the thing is so wide it would be useless for the purpose of making coffee directly into my Zojirushi carafe. So seeing how these two criticisms were factually inaccurate I bit the bullet and bought the cone and just received it two days ago. On initial inspection, I can see how someone could say it seems structurally unstable. But this thing has a small hollow cylinder jutting out from the bottom of the cone (not shown in in the picture) through which coffee drains (like a typical funnel). And when you insert this cylinder into the narrow neck of a carafe or thermos it is absolutely rock solid. On my Zojirushi, it is as if they were made for each other. If you needed to use this make coffee for a cup or mug then you probably are better off with the Melitta one cup cone.I ground my beans extra fine for cone filters and it took 3 minutes to make 1L of great coffee. I don't know that may be way too long for some people (as others did not post times I can't say) but it's perfectly fine for me. So at least for me the claim of being too slow was just not true.I can't wait until the weekend. I usually percolate a pot of coffee and read the paper and some books to pass away the morning before exercising and doing household chores.====================It's been over half a year since I bought the cone and have nothing but good experiences with it. I like it so much I bought another so I could make a pot of coffee at work. I have noticed that with extremely fine ground coffee (where the grounds turn to mud in the filter), the drainage is slower but you can try stirring the grounds as it drains, putting in the filter at a 90 degree angle to keep the filter from sticking against the sides of cone. I've never had a persitant problem of slow drainage. In any case, every day I use this cone to make a litre of coffee. It takes me less than 10 minutes to grind the beans, make the coffee, cleanup and walk back to my desk where all my coworkers fight amongst themselves as to who gets to drink my coffee a litre goes pretty fast when you've got five people drinking it.I don't claim that everyone will have this experience but as I said for someone who just wants a cup of coffee in the morning and some to share with friends, this has been a wonderful purchase.

5Works great -- important how-to-use detail
By northkona
Every coffee making device in my house broke recently -- the glass on the french press, the electric percolator, etc. I decided to buy this cone holder for a thermos carafe I have that has a flip-up lid. I wasnt sure if this would work, but it does, and the lid is not in the way. It's a close call, but it does fit. I'm pleased with the way it drips, I dont find it too slow. The unit also is bigger than I envisioned. Right now I'm using up a pack of Bunn filters that arent even meant for this type of filter holder, but I can make do. After this, I'll get the tallest cone filters, and that should make this whole arrangement Sweet! This was kind of expensive with the expedited shipping, over $17, but I am glad to have it, coffee tastes great, and I think it will work well with another carafe I had forgotten I had. It's a sturdy item, too -- should last indefinitely.UPDATE SIX MONTHS LATER: The reason some people had trouble with this isnt because of the one hole, it's because the paper filter sticks to the walls of the plastic cone after water is poured in, thus creating a vacuum seal. If you gently tug on the edge of the paper filter and release that seal, the coffee flows Very Fast out the one hole. The best way to use this product is with #6 cone filters because you can fill the cone with hot water all the way to the brim. #4's also work, but if you get the #6's, you'll be glad you did. I finally bought a case of them through one of the Amazon vendors, and the results are just great. No slow dripping, perfect coffee every morning. After I discovered the technique of tugging the paper filter slightly, that made this product work like a charm. So don't contemplate drilling any extra holes -- the one hole is enough. I love it this set-up. (PS -- You could use one of the gold mesh filters, and probably have no problem with slow dripping because no seal can be formed due to the rigid frame of that style filter.)UPDATE OCTOBER 2012: Still love it! Dropped on tile floor several times, it bounced but didnt break. Drip coffee is a beautiful thing.UPDATE FEBRUARY 2013: Original still going strong, still making terrific coffee. I did buy a burr grinder about a month ago, from Amazon -- it's the Baratza Encore. And I also bought the Cuisinart electric kettle, which looks a lot like a tall coffee pot. I like that hot water source much better than kettle on the gas stove. Faster -- which is good, because coffee in the morning, fast, is a requirement, in my opinion.

5Great for Camping
By Mike A.
This is a wonderful product and perfect for camping. Low energy use (just boil water), fast (the reviewer who thought otherwise probably ground her coffee too finely), compact, simple to use and clean. The filter extension that fits into the throat of the container is a very stable design and the coffee stays warm for hours in any standard thermos or carafe. I've owned one for years and never leave home for the desert or mountains without it. Two thumbs up!

3Its works - but nothing great.
By J. T. Klein
So, I'm trying to reuse my products rather than have to run out and buy replacements constantly - which brings me to a reusable coffee filter. Does it do the job, yes! Is it as good as I had hoped, No.Cons: - doesn't fit nicely into the Miletta Cone brew I have - even though its a #2 - some really fine particles come through that didn't using the paper filters (perhaps I need to change my grind?) - my coffee now has a mud section :-( - Its not as easy to clean (maybe I'm just lazy - but it seems like a lot of work to clean it)Pros: - Reusable - Helps to make coffeeNot sure what to expect - but I thought it'd hold my coffee better and fit in the filter more snuggly.

I've bought similar coffee filters in the past that performed better. This one lets a lot of small grinds through so you lend up with coffee mud in the bottom of your cup.

5A great coffee!
By Linda J. Manson
The Gevalia Morning Roast is a good coffee to start out the day. It is rather heady, with a good smell, and just wakes up the taste buds. I can sit with a cup for hours, if it weren't so good I just drink it right up!

5Big cup of good coffee
By G. Ware Cornell Jr.
In the two years since I have had a Tassimo, numerous new coffees and teas have become available, including Seattles Best and now Starbucks. But only set of T-Discs is specifically formulated for big cups of coffee, Gevalia Morning Roast. This coffee is smooth and mild, and it produces a full twelve ounce cup of joe. If you use bigger coffee cups there is no need to water down the brew using the manual switch on your Tassimo. In the future more coffees will become available in 12 oz servings, but until then you can wait while sipping leisurely on your Morning Roast.

4Good Coffee, Just too Weak for me.
By Scott A. Krueger
I like the Big Cup of Coffee for the Morning as well. But I like the Darker Roasts generally. This Coffee I cannot taste.I give it a 4 because it is not Bad coffee, especially if you enjoy milder brews. I just require a little more Kick from my Morning Coffee. If you like the "Extra Chunky" Coffee Like me then this one is not for you.

3A very good coffee.
By M. Lawson
This is a good, everyday, go-to coffee. The size is meant for a 10 cup coffee pot, or if you like your coffee a little on the light side. I made the mistake of thinking that the coffee would come in individual filter packs. My mistake. Other than that I have no complaints.

2Not what I expected
By surfermom1562
I really thought I was getting the prepack with it already in a filter, not loose coffee. Was very disappointed. Seller should really specify this.

Great value, good taste. Great for work, no matter who makes the coffee, the taste is consistent. It's increasingly difficult to find one-pot packs of coffee. Not everyone has a Keurig!
